This sweat was made at Rajlakshmi Cotton Mills, India. Founded in 1934 they have built a reputation for their high quality tailoring and respect for workers.
The organic cotton is sourced from Chetna Organic who work with marginalised farmers from Maharashtra, Odessa and Andhra Pradesh towards improving their livelihoods and making farming a sustainable occupation.
Vertically Integrated Production
Rajlakshmi Cotton Mills purchase the organic cotton directly from Chetna Organic and oversee the entire process from spinning the cotton into yarn, kniting the yarn into loopback fabric and cutting and sewing the final sweatshirt.
People Tree uses natural materials and minimal packaging wherever possible and even our swing tickets are made of FSC certified paper. The only exception is use of plastic bags when packing the garments, however these are biodegradable and prevent the piece from any damage on its journey from our Fair Trade producer groups to the warehouse and from the warehouse to customers.
People Tree and Rajlakshmi believe both in social as well as environmental sustainability and actively make choices to reduce our carbon footprint, which is why it is our policy to ship all People Tree goods from Rajlakshmi to the UK by sea. In rare cases, when there is a risk of a delayed delivery, we opt for air shipments to make sure the product is available for our customers on time. This was the case of the Pale Blue Sweatshirt from our Spring/Summer 2016 collection. All products arrive to our warehouse based in Enfield, Greater London, from where they are distributed to customers.
