How Tideford Organics became the UK's first organic vegan brand
Tideford Organics was founded in 1996, making homemade style soups + sauces from our home in Devon.
Our mission has always been the same: to produce high quality, simple, organic food using the best possible ingredients. Just the good stuff.
In 2016, we began to realise this wasn't enough -
we needed to make food that’s good for the planet, too.
51% of global greenhouse emissions are due to livestock and their byproducts. The meat and dairy industries use a third of the world's fresh water. Even without fossil fuels, raising animals will have caused us to exceed our C02E limit by 2030.
But a plant-based diet can cut your carbon footprint by 50%. Skipping just one burger a day can be enough to charge your mobile phone for 4.5 years.
It became clear that we had a responsibility to revolutionise the way we operated as a business.
As our Managing Director, Lynette Sinclair says: “As a dedicated ethical and organic producer, the move to vegan was the obvious next step. The evidence of the impact we could make by removing meat and dairy from our recipes, both nutritionally and environmentally, was too compelling to ignore and we wanted to do our bit to help.”
The Chicken Has Flown The Coop
In September 2016, we relaunched as the UK's first organic vegan brand. Why? Because if we can make it even easier for you to cut down on meat, then together we could make something amazing happen.
We needed to revolutionise our range of products - saying goodbye to much-loved old recipes, but hello to irresistible vegan soups, sauces + misos.
So the chickens ran free, and we named the replacement for our Farmhouse Chicken Soup 'Chicken Has Flown the Coop: Country Vegetable Rosemary + Thyme'. It's now a best-seller!
And we're delighted with the response we've had - from suppliers, retailers, and consumers.
We're always on the hunt for the best ingredients, and are delighted to bring back one of our most popular (and award-winning soups) this Autumn with a new twist.
Our Sweet Potato + Quinoa soup now includes the UK's only organic British-grown quinoa, courtesy of the fantastic British Quinoa Company.
We've also forged some fantastic new partnerships, and made some great friends along the way: nutritionists, chefs, bloggers, and the world's first vegan football club!
