Increasing financial transparency with proof of fair payment
Working in an international coconut supply chain, Provenance supports fair trading through a system that proves the exact living wage payment received by Indonesian farmers.
Provenance has been used to verify proof of payment for living wage to 55 farmers whilst tracking coconuts from South East Asia to Europe. The initiative has demonstrated the possibility of using blockchain technology to track ethical claims, and digitally prove fair trading practices.
Using technology to champion farmers’ rights
In the regular sales processes, it’s almost impossible to find out what a farmer receives for the goods he produces. How can blockchain technology improve financial transparency and verify proof of fair payment to agricultural workers?
A grassroots certification approach to proving fair pay
Working with NGO Fairfood, Provenance tracked ethics claims on 1000 coconuts. Using a grassroots certification approach, we tracked payment one way, product the other way, registering the harvest via SMS, and verifying chain of custody along the supply chain.
Shopper-facing proof of fair trading
Integrating Provenance into the Fairfood ecosystem, we provided shoppers with blockchain-verified proof of fair pay on 1000 coconuts. The joint effort forms the basis for a more ethical, financially transparent system in the food industry.
Prove social impact
Provenance shows customers the value of your product by showcasing its journey or creation process.
Increase financial transparency
Provide real time transparency as verified proof of payment travels down the chain of custody.
Bridge digital and physical worlds by making product journeys accessible at the point of sale.
Transparency is the new green, we say at Fairfood. And there’s no service like Provenance to create transparency in modern-day supply chains.Marten van Gils
