What are the requirements for this Proof Point?

For your products

The amount of plastic or glass packaging used in this product's packaging has reduced compared to a baseline within the last two years.

Criteria

For products where plastic is the main packaging material, the weight of the plastic either:

  • Has been reduced by 50% or more compared to a baseline in the last 2 years OR;
  • Is 50% lower than alternative options from a packaging supplier (the alternative must have the same volume capacity)

    For products where glass is the main packaging material, the weight of the glass either:

  • Has been reduced by 30% or more compared to a baseline in the last 2 years
  • Is 30% lower than comparable glass packaging options from a packaging supplier (the alternative must have the same volume capacity)

    Additional Criteria:

  • The current packaging components must be at least as recyclable as the original packaging
  • Any paper or cardboard packaging must be FSC-certified or similar
  • Bioplastics are considered plastic waste and not applicable as evidence to prove a reduction in plastic waste

    This business has reduced the amount of plastic it uses compared to a baseline within the last two years.

    Criteria

  • For a reduced plastic claim, this business has measured its total plastic packaging footprint and has reduced the amount of plastic it uses by 10% in the last 2 years
  • Any paper or cardboard packaging used instead must be FSC-certified or similar
  • Information you'll need to share in this Proof Point

    • Evidence must clearly state the percentage reduction
    • For product claims, the materials used in the replacement packaging must be specified to ensure they are as recyclable as the original packaging
    • The date of the baseline measurement and the time period must be stated

    What documents do I need to supply?

    Evidence should strongly support the claim and will be made publicly available

    • A report detailing the original or alternative packaging weight or total packaging used and subsequent reductions
    • Comparative packaging specifications from before and after that demonstrate the reduction
