NATRUE Organic

NATRUE is a non-profit association, founded in 2007 by WALA, Weleda, Laverana, PRIMAVERA, LOGOCOS, and CEP, and maintains the NATRUE Organic and Natural Standards. NATRUE works for better regulation of natural and organic cosmetic products and advocates for an official definition of natural and organic cosmetics. The NATRUE label was created in 2008 to help consumers identify natural and organic cosmetics.

Standard Summary

  • All products need to meet NATRUE’s requirements for natural and naturally derived ingredient content (requirements are product type specific, water is excluded from the calculation of the natural or organic content in a product)

  • 95% of natural ingredients or naturally derived ingredients must be certified organic

  • If Palm oil is present it should be from a certified supply chain (RSPO or similar)

  • At least 75% of a brand’s full product range should be certified

  • Products are free from ingredients of petrochemical origin

  • Products are free from GMOs

  • Products are free from synthetic perfumes and parabens

  • Products are free from microplastics – both solid microbeads and liquid polymers

  • Audits take place in person and the certification needs to be renewed every two years

  • Products sold in countries where animal testing is required by law cannot be NATRUE certified
