Te Protejo

Te Protejo certifies that a brand’s products, and every ingredient in them, have not been tested on animals, by the brand or its suppliers, in any country. It covers cosmetics, personal care, household cleaning and pet care brands. Brands choose to apply and pay a yearly fee, and Te Protejo reviews the evidence itself. It is run by Te Protejo, a non-profit founded in Chile in 2012 that campaigns to end animal testing in Latin America

Standard Summary-

  • The brand and its suppliers must not carry out, commission or pay for animal tests on ingredients, part-made formulas or finished products, for any market.

  • The brand must collect written evidence from every ingredient supplier and keep checking it through a supplier monitoring system.

  • The brand must report to Te Protejo any animal test a government health authority requires.

  • Te Protejo reviews the brand’s evidence itself, with no independent auditor. The brand must accept random checks and renew its certification every year.

  • The certification does not cover whether products contain ingredients from animals, the practices of a parent company, or a fixed date from which testing must have stopped.
