Funds Carbon Removal Projects
This Proof Point highlights brands that have funded carbon removal projects. Carbon removal projects take carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and store it, rather than preventing emissions from happening in the first place. The project is verified by an independent carbon standard such as Gold Standard or Verra, and funding must fall within the last 24 months.
Proof Point Level
Product BusinessWhat are the requirements for this proof point
- The business funds a carbon removal project (not avoidance) verified by a reputable standard, e.g. Gold Standard, Verra
- Funding activity must fall within the last 24 months
Information you'll need to share
- Name of the verification standard and project(s) funded
- Quantity of carbon removed
- Business’ carbon footprint (measured using an internationally recognised methodology e.g. GHG Protocol)
- Confirmation the project type is removal, not avoidance
What documents do I need to supply?
** Evidence should strongly support the claim and will be made publicly available**
- Verification certificate from the standard body confirming project, volume (tonnes CO2), and removal-project status
- Evidence the funding is active/current (within 24 months)
Who can verify this Proof Point?
Verifiers are third parties who can confirm the validity of a given Proof Point
- The carbon standard body (Gold Standard, Verra, etc.) as the independent verifier of the underlying project
Proof Point Basis- The Funds Carbon Removal Projects proof point highlights businesses that fund third-party verified carbon removal projects, projects that actively remove CO2 from the atmosphere rather than avoiding future emissions. The IPCC defines carbon dioxide removal as anthropogenic activities that remove CO2 from the atmosphere and durably store it, including afforestation and reforestation alongside technologies such as direct air capture. The project must be verified by an international standard such as Verra or Gold Standard. Funding activity must fall within the last 24 months, and the business's own carbon footprint must be measured using an internationally recognised methodology such as the GHG Protocol.
