The GOOD Shopping Guide Recommended
The GOOD Shopping Guide is a UK ratings publisher that has scored companies on their record towards the environment, animals and people since 2001. Brands are scored out of 100 on the policies they publish and on any credible criticism of their conduct and their parent company . Only brands scoring at or above the benchmark for their product sector can be recommended. The benchmark is set by comparing brands in the same sector. Brands are reassessed every 12-24 months.

BusinessStandard Summary
- Brands are scored across 8 to 12 criteria relevant to their sector, such as an environmental report with measurable targets, a policy against animal testing, a supplier code of conduct banning forced and child labour, and recyclable packaging, with ratings adding up to a score out of 100.
- To be recommended, a brand must score at or above its sector benchmark, which is usually the top third of around 25 brands compared, and because the system is points-based no single criterion is mandatory.
- Credible criticism from the last five years lowers a brand’s score, and five or more criticisms in one area add an extra penalty that usually rules out a recommendation.
- The parent company’s record counts against the brand, for example a brand owned by a company that tests on animals is marked down even if the brand holds its own cruelty-free certification.
- The assessment is a desk-based review of published policies, NGO reports and public records, with no site or supply chain audits, and brands are reassessed every 12-24 months.
